The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 5,101 new HIV cases in the Philippines from January to March 2025, marking a 50% surge compared to the same period last year.
The DOH noted that 22% (1,122 cases) of the newly reported infections were already in advanced stages. The majority of new cases were males, accounting for 95%, while females made up 5%. The age of those infected ranged from 1 to 81 years old.
Most of the new cases were reported in the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Davao, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas. These regions comprised 69% of the total reported cases nationwide.
Health officials project that the number of people living with HIV in the country could reach 252,800 by the end of 2025 if current trends continue.
