DOH Issues Health Warning Over Ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano Eruption

Following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on Negros Island early Tuesday morning, the Department of Health (DOH) has issued a public advisory warning residents about the health hazards of volcanic ashfall.

The DOH emphasized that volcanic ash consists of fine particles small enough to enter the lungs, posing serious respiratory risks. Several communities near the volcano, including parts of La Carlota City, are already affected, according to Phivolcs.

Residents in impacted areas are urged to:

  • Wear N95 face masks
  • Use safety goggles
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants to shield skin, eyes, and lungs from ash exposure

The DOH also reminded the public that its emergency medical teams are on standby and available for urgent health concerns related to the ashfall.

Mt. Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 3, indicating continued volcanic activity and the potential for further eruptions
